‘Okka Magaadu’ cut short by 20 minutes

Okka Magaadu film has been cut short by 20 minutes. Two songs and elaborate scene sequences have been drastically reduced,thanks to ‘scissoring’.
According to YVS Chowdary, Okka Magaadu’s producer cum director believes that thd film will do well in the coming days, though the distributors are not happy with the delayed audience response. He also argues that this is a film for the common man who watches a movie without any pre-occupied notions unlike critics.

Kamal and Disney to produce most expensive film

In what seems to be another feather in the cap of one of India’s finest actors, Kamal Haasan will now join forces with none other than Walt Disney Productions, who are slated to produce his forthcoming film Marma Yogi (Mysterious Saint). According to the buzz, this big-budget spectacle will be co-produced by Bharath Bala, who was responsible for Vande Mataram, the first patriotic music video by A. R. Rahman which made waves several years ago. The new collaboration will see Kamal Haasan and A. R. Rahman coming together after a long gap.

According to sources, Walt Disney Productions, which recently tied up with Yash Raj Films for a full-length animated feature called Roadside Romeo, wanted to expand its operations across the country. And this is why Marma Yogi was chosen.

The film, which is said to be directed by Kamal Haasan will be his fourth directorial venture. It is a period drama, set in the seventh century, which will also feature him in the lead role. Hema Malini, who worked with Kamal in Hey Ram and Asin who is cast opposite him in Dasavadharam have been roped in to play key roles. There is yet another heroine in the film. Co-incidentally, Marma Yogi is the title of one of MGR’s legendary blockbusters, which is known to be the first Tamil film to receive an ‘A’ certificate at the time of its release in 1951.

This is the second time that Kamal has adopted the title of an MGR film (after Sathi Leelavathi of 1936). The new film, which is touted to be the most expensive film ever made in the country, has an astronomical budget of approximately Rs 120 crore. The movie seems all set to compete against Rajnikanth’s recently announced film, Robot in the race to become India’s most expensive film to date. Kamal will shortly go to the US to discuss the production of this film, which is slated to be shot in Thailand. Kamal plans to start shooting for this film in February.

Story

Mantra’s (Charmme) parents die when she was young and she lives with her friend Vinny (Karuna Sri). She inherits an ancestral property called ‘Mantra Nilayam’ in the outskirts of Hyderabad. Mantra Nilayam is called as haunted house because of two untimely deaths in that farm house few years back. She wants to sell it off, but no body comes forward to buy the property due to its reputation. A professor comes forward to buy that house with a condition that somebody should stay there for three months. Hero (Sivaji) is a small time goon who looks after land settlements. Hero wants to stay in the house so that he would get a commission of the sale once ‘Mantra Nilayam’ is sold. The rest of the story is all about how Hero demystifies everything.

Krishna to get Doctorate and Padmasri award?

The veteran actor is credited with being associated with the production of the first cinema scope and 70mm movies in Tollywood. The multifaceted personality has produced and directed many movies and also produced many successful TV serials

Recently, Krishna has been bestowed the NTR National Award for the year 2007. It is believed that the Andhra University is going to felicitate the actor with an honourary Doctorate in the ensuing convocation.

Further, it is revealed that, the government of AP has written a letter to the Central Government recommending his name for the prestigious Padmasri award.

It looks like an award filled New Year for Krishna!

‘Varsham’ movie director "Shoban" passes away

Young director Shoban (40) today died of heart attack. Shoban approached Bhumika for a Kannada film. At her residence in Hyderabad, Shoban struck with cardiac arrest. Bhumika and her husband Bharat Takur immediately rushed him to Image Hospitals in Madhapur. Doctors declared he was brought dead

Shoban made his directorial debut with Mahesh Babu starrer Bobby. He shot to fame with Varsham which was a blockbuster. His last film was Ravi Teja starrer Chanti.

He is survived by a wife Soujanya and two sons. Shoban was known for his able hand in scripting. He helped many directors during the script sessions of many super hit films. His Kannada film, Mayoora, with Puneeth Rajkumar as the hero was recently launched.

He assisted Ram Gopal Varma, Krishnavamsi and K Raghavendra Rao and also acted in films like Kshana Kshanam, Oka Raju Oka Rani
