Kalaipuli Thanu who is producing Mallanna with Vikram in the lead role made his presence felt in Hyderabad today with his extravagant invitations. He made electronic invitations which costs 15000 rupees a piece to send out to VIPs in Telugu film industry. The invitations that are given to the journalists cost around 3000 rupees a piece. Each invitation looks like a grand photo album. Vikram plays five different roles in this film including a get-up of a female. They release a trailer of 8.11 minutes duration.

National award winning actor Vikram’s latest bilingual ‘Mallanna’ was launched at a function arranged in Prasad Labs in Hyderabad on the evening of 24 September. This function is attended by DVS Raju, K Raghavendra Rao, Ramesh Prasad, C Kalyan, director Susi Ganesh, Ekambaram (cinematographer), Devi Sri Prasad, Priyamani, Kaveri, Vikram, Shriya and Kalaipuli Thanu (producer) attended this launch.

DVS Raju said, “I had known Kalaipuli Thanu for the past 30 years. He specializes in getting everybody’s attention with extravagant acts. He always make sure that his films are special. The trailer of Mallanna reminds me of Hollywood trailers.”

Hero Vikram said, “I want to work in many more Telugu films. This is a wonderful film. We selected the crew members as per the demand of the subject. Susi Ganesh work with Mani Ratnam in the past. This extravagant invitation just the tip of the iceberg. The trailers of Mallanna sparked tremendous response. Kalaipuli Thanu is called as Publicity King back in Chennai. Mallanna will be another feather in my cap after Siva Putrudu and Aparichitudu.”

Director Susi Ganesh said, “I would like to thank the producer for agreeing to the concept I narrated to him. This kind of invitation is never made in India before. Vikram involved himself in the script of the film as well. Devi Sri Prasad provided very good music. There is a nice social message in this film which is being made on Hollywood scale. This film will be liked by kids and youth.”

Devi Sri Prasad said that he is a great fan of Vikram and is very happy to score music for his film.

Dubbing goes out of the window. Why have a dubbed version when everyone is prepared to go that extra mile and make a bilingual? So we will have two Kanthaswamys instead of one, come 2008. Not two Kanthaswamys in the exact sense of the word but two nevertheless.

In the face of the growing audience for Tamil films in Andhra Pradesh and Vikram’s already fairly strong fan base in the state the unit has decided to make two versions of Kanthaswamy simultaneously.

The Telugu version of Kanthaswamy has been titled Mallanna, something we hear is one of the names of Lord Shiva. So we are having Kanthaswamy (Lord Muruga) in Tamil Nadu and Lord Shiva in Andhra Pradesh. With Vikram having agreed to do the project which will be his first straight Telugu film as hero and Shriya having no problems with the Telugu version with all the experience of having done many movies in the language the Andhra audience can look forward to a real treat in mid 2008. What with the mileage that has been gained by the 8 minute teaser (very long length for a teaser) the expectations have started building up. Kanthaswamy’s fate especially at the Telugu box office is going to be a major yardstick to judge future Tamil movies with good star value for feasibility as bilinguals.

Kanthaswamy is set to be formally launched with a puja on the 23rd in Chennai and the very next day in Hyderabad. So there you have it, Kanthaswamy and Mallanna- a 2008 treat for all Vikram fans. By the way don’t forget Bheema that will hopefully be out some time soon.
