Poor Publicity Kills Kamal’s Film September 1, 2007

Kamal Hasan’s one year old movie is released yesterday in Telugu version. That was originally ‘Vetaiyadu Velaiyadu’ in Tamil which was supposed to release long back in Telugu. Initially the dubbed title was announced as ‘Vetadu Ventadu’ and then ‘Magadheera’ and finally ‘Raghavan’.
Although the film stands to be good flick with respect to the emotional quotient it that, the lack of publicity and reach ability with number of prints is killing the film at box office. Adding to all this the bomb threats in Hyderabad are also bringing in fear among people that’s killing the tempo of collections.
On a whole, the lack of publicity is killing this Kamal’s fresh film. Jothika, Kamalini Mukherjee and Prakash Raj played key roles in the film.

Kamal Haasan Vettayadu-Velauyadu’ as ‘Raghavan’in telugu August 19, 2007

The successful Tamil film ‘Vettayadu-Velauyadu’ with Kamal Haasan, Jyothika and Kamalini Mukherjee in the lead is being dubbed into Telugu as ‘Raghavan’ by KVV Satyanarayana, Sakhamuri Panduranga Rao on the banner of Channel Communications.
REVIEW (tamil version):
Vettayadu Vilayadu is a crisply-edited film that bears the stamp of Gautam’s directorial dexterity. Stylistic, innovative, technically top-class, VV is all this and more. And as always, Kamal is in his elements as the investigative top cop, adding a new dimension to his histrionic skills.
No minus points, you might ask. There are drawbacks, of course. The surfeit of violence, especially against women puts you off. Besides, the pace slackens a bit in the second half. And the denouement is, to say the least, a bit contrived.
DCP Raghavan (Kamal Haasan) is in Madurai to probe the brutal murder of Rani, daughter of the city Police Commissioner Arogyaraj (Prakash Raj), his mentor. Arogyaraj and his wife, traumatized by the tragedy that befell their beloved daughter, shift to New York, only to be killed.
The shocked Tamil Nadu police commandeers the services of DCP Raghavan to unearth the mystery behind the twin murders. Raghavan goes about his job with the help of New York Police and the FBI.
While in New York, Aradhana (Jyothika) comes into Raghavan’s life. The police officer saves Aradhana, who tries to end her life, fed up with a failed marriage. Bengali beauty, Kamalini Mukherjee plays Raghavan’s wife, who is bumped off by goondas.
A major highlight of Vettayadu Vilayadu is the outstanding camera work by Ravi Varman. Ravi has framed some brilliant aerial shots of New York by night.
Music director Harris Jayaraj has also come up trumps with a number of catchy tunes. You won’t forget “Manjal Veyil…” and “Partha Muthal Naal”. The song that introduces Kamal “Karka Karka” is peppy and its picturisation, excellent.
Prakash Raj does a competent job as usual. But the surprise in the package is Balaji as the serial killer. Jyothika is passable. But Kamalini takes the eye, for sure. You will see a lot more of this Bengali beauty, who steals over you, though her role is brief.
Watch it for Kamal Haasan’s brilliant delineation of the mind and methods of a top police officer.

New ‘light’ in Surya, Jyothika’s life August 18, 2007

Surya and Jyothika are blessed with a daughter. And the star couple named their baby ‘Diya’. On this happy moment, Surya had started an education trust, Agram in Chennai. On Saturday, Surya handed scholarships to 13 poor students. Each of the student got Rs 10 thousand from him.
Speaking to the reporters, Surya said he is happy that his current Tamil film, Vel, is releasing in Telugu too. “I will soon make a straight Telugu film. After this I will do Gowtham Menon’s film. Later I might do straight Telugu flick. Discussions are going on,” he told.

Manikyan Narayan is presenting the movie. The dubbing activities of the film have come to an end and the first copy was ready.
The audio of the film is all set for launch on August 18 through Aditya Music. The producers are making efforts to release the film on August 31.
It may be mentioned here that the film was directed by Gautham Menon, who had directed Venkatesh for ‘Gharshana’ in Telugu.
Harris Jayaraj scored music for the flick.
Another interesting feature in the film is that over 90 per cent of the film was shot in the US.
One more surprising point to note is that Dasarath, who had directed ‘Santosham’ with Nagarjuna as hero, had scripted dialogues for the movie.
Kamal Haasan is playing the role of a police officer in this movie.

Gautham Menon’s recent hit in Telugu as Drohi
Pachaikili Muthucharam is now getting dubbed into Telugu as Drohi. Sarat Kumar started his film career in Telugu and did several negative roles and also supporting roles before he came big in Tamil. Jyothika also did a couple of films in Telugu and got herself the recognition. ‘The cast and crew and very much recognized in Andhra, and that is what gives us the confidence’, says Vijaykumar, one of the producers of the film in Telugu. Ramana, Vijaykumar and Sridhar got the Telugu dubbing rights for this film.
Harris Jayraj composed music for the film and the songs are superb. Vennelakanti provided lyrics for the songs in Telugu. Sashank Vennelakanti wrote the dialogs. At present, DTS mixing is going on. Audio will release in the third week of August and film will release in the first week of September.

Suriya-Jyotika baby due today August 10, 2007

Kollywood’s newest couple actors Suriya and Jyotika will become parents today, as the young mother-to-be was admitted to the Apollo First Med hospital on Poonamalee High road for her delivery on August 9 itself, a few days before her due date which was August 13.
According to sources in the hospital, Suriya’s family was very keen that the first grandchild be born on Friday, August 10 as all Fridays during the Aadi month are considered very auspicious. It is believed that Jyotika may have to undergo a C-section, which has been scheduled for the morning of August 10, before rahu kalam, which is between 10.30 am to 12 noon.
There are rumours that according the the scan, the couple may be expecting twins, but the news could not be confirmed as family members are being very tight-lipped about the delivery. The hospital premises are out of bounds for media and fans, only family member are being allowed inside. Suriya has cancelled all his shoots and outdoor schedules so that he can be present in Chennai for the delivery.
