Indian film heroes are called the best when they shoe their exemplary dancing talent. The mania is big in southern films. Looking at the past, the active dancing steps were first introduced by ANR in later 70s. Then the dancing on screen got great appeal with the advent of Chiranjeevi. Dancing talent contributed a lot for the grown up mass appeal for Chiranjeevi.

The shape of song picturing changed from then. Now every hero who shines on screen should be a dancer, to get mass appeal. That is the impression on whole. But are all good dancers? Are all gifted ones? Let us see in personalized form. This is the information given by a choreographer, with the condition of putting his name in anonymity.

Chiranjeevi:
He is very keen in reproducing any step composed by choreographer. At times he also tries to add new flavor to it. But in majority cases he just enacts what the choreographer says. He is not a quick learner. He practices every step several times. He practiced veena step in ‘Indra’ for 8 hrs. He hardly takes multiple takes before camera. Majority of his dances were shot in single take.

Nagarjuna:
He is not a very good dancer but his body weight turned advantage for him. He can swing and jump easily as he is not heavy. But it is very difficult to compose professional steps for him in fast track music. Choreographers should manage with group dancers and heroines to bring appeal to screen.

Balakrishna:
We have to say he is aggressive while dancing. He never says ‘No’ to any step. None can stop him if he is in right mood to dance aggressively for the music. It is difficult to bring him out of that mood. He goes over fast at times. It proves tough job for choreographer to mend his ways with Balayya.

Venkatesh:
He is sane dancer who reduces work for choreographer. He knows what he can do and moulds accordingly.

NTR Jr:
He is the quickest learner of any critical step. His quick grasping and ability to reproduce it are unique. His average height is an advantage for him. Whatever he does, that looks good on screen. He learned the most critical step in ‘Nachore’ song of ‘Yamadonga’ in single attempt. It took two months for choreographer to conceive that step.

Prabhas:
He admits that he is not a great dancer and hence keeps on learning. His tall physique is a disadvantage. Dancing wouldn’t look good unless he enacts with more perfection.

Gopichand:
Same is the same with Gopichand as well. He is almost like Prabhas in terms of dance.

Mahesh Babu:
He is a stylish dancer and not a very quick learner. He observes every movement silently and he will not attempt to do until he gets the logic of the step. Once he attempts that looks good. There won’t be long rehearsals with him.
