AR Rehman gets in big trouble August 24, 2007

This year, on the occasion of Independence Day, AR Rehman decided to try out something very different and came up with a version of the National Anthem. He got the leading singers from around the country to sing a line each. The video was very beautifully done. But it has left quite a number of people very angry. Some are even planning to file a complaint against him. 
The video was played on TV and in movie halls all over the country. A group of students from Tamilnadu aren’t that happy about the way the song had been modified. “The anthem should last for only 52 seconds. This one runs for 85. What makes him think that he could go about twisting and modifying the national anthem to suit is creative instincts?” ask the students.
Some of them also felt that it wasn’t right on his part to commercialize the national anthem. “He tried this with ‘Vande Maataram’. He really should leave the national anthem out of it,” they add.
AR Rehman is yet to react to this criticism.
